Review of Grand Hotel du Palais Royale, Paris
Unbeatable location, beautifully renovated, fairly priced:
For our family’s short trip to Paris, our choice for a hotel fell on this perfectly located, beautifully renovated hotel in a splendid 18th century building.
Location
The hotel is new (opened in 2013) and its situation in the 1st district cannot be beaten. It is very close to major attractions (Louvre, Tuileries, Palais Royale, Vendome Square) and most other sights are within 30 minutes walking. Also the metro is very close. Although the hotel is very central its location is absolutely quiet, it is idyllically tucked into a tranquil courtyard, the Valois Square.

Rooms
The hotel is mid-sized (68 rooms). As we needed 2 rooms for our family, we booked a Deluxe Room for my husband and myself and a Superior Room for our adult son. Both rooms are not large, but functional, you never feel cramped in them. For more space you have to choose a Junior Suite. The Deluxe Room has 248 square feet and a well-sized bathroom with a shower and/or a separate tub, the Superior Room has 205 square feet and a adequately sized bathroom with a shower. Both rooms are tastefully decorated in an elegant, but at the same time modern style and are well equipped. Our couple’s Deluxe Room had 2 windows overlooking the Valois Square and had a great view of Sacre Coeur, nice! Rates are not cheap – it is a five star house –, but fair. In our rate, breakfast was included (plus 40 EUR for 2).

Food
Speaking of food, we did not have dinner or lunch in the hotel’s restaurant (le Lulli), but “only” breakfast. The room is stylishly furnished, with a view of some kind of winter garden. In the morning there is a nicely arranged breakfast buffet with a very good choice. All the food we had was very tasty. In addition you can order eggs and omelets. Several times we were in the adjoining lounge bar and did enjoy it there. Service was very attentive and courteous and there is a good selection of Champagne (30 sorts). I liked the delicious nuts they served with the drinks!
Facilities/staff
SPA and fitness facilities are available, but I cannot comment on these because we did not use them. The staff is great, all the employees we encountered were friendly and helpful. Especially the personnel at the bar went to great lengths to be of service. We felt well at ease at Grand Hotel du Palais Royal and would return in a heartbeat.
