Review of Hotel Caro, Valencia, Spain
Masterfully renovated old palace in top location:
This hotel is by far the best choice for demanding travelers in the old town of Valencia. My husband and I chose Caro for our 4 days’ stay in this beautiful and not overly touristy city in the middle of the Spanish Mediterranean coast and fully enjoyed it.
Location/facilities
The hotel is situated in a quiet side street in the heart of the old town, near the Cathedral and the Turia Gardens. The most important tourist attractions are within walking distance. When the former palace was transformed in a hotel, fragments of the Roman City and the Arab city wall were found and incorporated into the modern contemporary design. All 26 rooms differ from each other and can be looked at on the hotel’s website. There are a stylish restaurant and a cool bar with a small outside area where you also find the small splash pool.

Room
Our couple’s choice for a room fell on #21 – The Secret Staircase. It is located on the second floor, overlooking the street. The room is tastefully decorated and spacious (44 m2). We did have a terrific night’s rest because of the perfect bed and the absence of noise from outside. There is an open plan bathroom, at least this applies to the sink (unfortunately only one of them) and the tub. There also is a separate shower and of course an enclosed toilet.

Food
The restaurant onsite – Alma del Temple – serves delicious breakfasts. Every morning there is a wonderfully arranged buffet that is not only eyecatching but also offers tasty food. For lunch and dinner contemporary Mediterranean cuisine with Asian influences is available there. We once dined at the restaurant and liked it.

Staff
All the staff we met was friendly and helpful, especially the one at the reception desk was very attentive and accommodating.
We would not hesitate to return to this jewel of a hotel. Actually we already wanted to stay there again, but the hotel was already fully booked. As we did not find an appropriate alternative, we even decided to go to another city!
Date of stay: July 2014
