Review of Restaurant Martin, Flueh, Switzerland
UPDATE: under new management
Classic French cuisine with a twist, amiable hosts:
My husband and I visited this restaurant – situated in my home canton of Solothurn, but bordering France – on the occasion of a business dinner. Our party was much too early, maybe 20 minutes before the restaurant opened, but that was no problem. We were warmly welcomed and seated, which cannot be taken for granted!
Hosts
Restaurant Martin is under new management, and this after the predecessor – Werner Martin, the name giver, who had been running the restaurant for 25 years – gave up his business. Manfred Moeller is responsible for the kitchen, his wife Claudia for the service. Both are kind, competent and know how to make small talk to guests.
1st starter: Scallops with Ugli Fruit |
Food
We opted for the spring menu, which I consider as adequately priced (5 courses for 125 SFR): scallops with ulgli fruit, asparagus with char, warm foie gras with medlar & hazelnuts, saddle of veal with chanterelles & peas and mille-feuille with strawberries & vanilla. All the dishes were perfectly prepared and tasty. I especially liked the foie gras in combination with stone fruits and nuts, delicious. Also the meat dish was wonderfully tender! Manfred Moeller’s cuisine is classic but without being too heavy and always with a twist, we were fond of it. There is an a la carte menu as well with many choices of classic French dishes as frog legs or foie gras.

Other information
As already pointed out, the hosts were welcoming and amiable. They talked to us after dinner, which was enjoyable. Service was friendly and efficient. The restaurant is classically styled, but without being old-fashioned. The restaurant is rather small, there are maybe 7 tables. Meals can also be taken outside under the chestnut trees, certainly nice in summertime.
Dessert: Mille-feuille with Strawberries & Vanilla |
We would return in a heartbeat, but unfortunately we do not live nearby – funny enough do we live in the same canton, but Flueh is an exclave of it!
Date of visit: May 2016
