Review of Hotel The Samaya Ubud, Bali

Staff that goes the extra mile, lovely grounds and not too far away from Ubud‘s center:

For our three-day stay in Bali’s must-see town of Ubud my husband and I opted for The Samaya Ubud. And it was a pleasant stay! Right after arrival, we marveled at the magnificient view of rice paddies and the luscious landscape. And we were enchanted by the warmth of the staff.

Accommodation

We had booked an Ajung Villa situated right by the Ajung River. These accommodations are close to the restaurant “Swept Away” and the spa. To reach it we needed to take a buggy down a steep hill. In the garden of the villa you find a generously sized pool, a daybed and a sitting area just on the river’s edge. The villa’s interior was nicely furnished, well equipped and in a good condition although there were some slight traces of use. The spacious bathroom comes with two sinks, a large tub and a separate shower.

Food/staff

There is afternoon tea included in the rate in the restaurant by the river, “Swept Away”, that we enjoyed. The baked goods were good and the atmosphere was splendid. Also the breakfast was convincing. It is served at the restaurant “Scene” by the entrance uphill overlooking the rice paddies. There is a wide selection and we liked what we got. What I found extraordinary was how we were treated by the staff. The manager usually took the opportunity to interact with us after breakfast. You got the impression that they really care for their guests’ wellbeing!

Once we had dinner at the restaurant “Swept Away” offering Bali fare and western food. We opted for local cuisine and found it delicious!

Spa

The hotel’s spa is marvelous. We had a massage included in our arrangement but we did not make an appointment until just before leaving. The staff at the spa asked us on our second last day when we wanted to have the treatment. So we arranged it for the morning of our departure and it was wonderful! We really enjoyed it although we usually do not use these services.

Transportation

As already indicated above, the property is very hilly, but the staff picks you up by buggy. There is also a transportation service to the airport and to the center of Ubud. The latter is very convenient as it is too far away to reach it by foot (driving time is about 15 minutes).

In sum, it was a pleasant stay at a wonderfully situated hotel with friendly and attentive staff. Plus, The Samaya is also conveniently for heading into downtown Ubud.
