My first blogpost after a long break

Swiss Traveler is back – still watching out for best hotels and restaurants!

Here I am again! Three years ago, I stopped blogging because I was busy doing a teacher training and working in this job. After teaching German and English at a secondary school for a bit more than two years, I quit. I had come to the conclusion that this job is not my thing. Instead I wanted to resume blogging about my life as Swiss Traveler.

I still like the finer things in life. That means for me staying at good hotels and dining at fine restaurants. And I always strive to find the best everywhere my husband and I go. Yet we are not ready to pay exorbitant prices, there must be good value for money. To reach this aim, I am ready to sacrifice quite a lot of time for research and planning.

What is new on this blog?

Up to now, I have published on this blog all the hotel reviews I did for TripAdvisor. There was also the one or other post about traveling in general. From now on, I want to be more active and more comprehensive too. On the one hand, I continue reviewing the hotels of our trips. On the other hand, I also want to write about the restaurants we dined at when traveling.

In addition, I would like to report on dining spots from my home area as well. This is about northwestern Switzerland, the triangle between Zurich, Basel and Bern. Further topics shall be itineraries or things to do in the destinations we visit, in particular how to walk them.

What were my travel destinations during my taking a time out?

I stopped reviewing but I didn’t stop traveling. On the contrary, my husband and I were quite busy going on trips. Quite often, our adult son joined us on our journeys.

In 2013, we spent ski vacations in Zuers, Arlberg, in Austria. We were also a few days away in early spring, and this in London. Then in summer, we made a longer journey in the Northwest of America: Vancouver – Vancouver Island – Oregon Coast – San Francisco. There were also two short stays in Davos, Swiss Alps, and in Tonbach, Black Forest Germany. In fall, we went again to the USA to visit our son who was in Los Angeles for a language stay. We started in New York, flew to San Diego and travelled by car to Los Angeles.

You will find reports of all the hotels we stayed at during these trips on my blog. Excluded are the ones that I have already reviewed earlier on. There is one exception, the post about our Davos lodging follows later on, as another stay is scheduled here. I also managed to work off backlog of hotels visited in past years. Of course, some time has passed since our staying at them. Yet I did quite a lot of research to make sure that they are still up to date.

In the following year (2014), we went skiing in Zuers once again. In spring, we travelled to Bali – we needed to catch up as far as Asia is concerned … Later on in summer, we spent some days in Valencia, Spain. There was also a week away in Ascona, Ticino, in Switzerland, followed by some more days in Davos. Finally, we headed to the USA again – you see, we love this country. This time, it was up to the east coast: Madison CT – Boston – Meredith NH – Manchester VT – New York.

In 2015, no surprise, a Zuers stay followed again. Then we felt like returning to Asia. There were first ten days in Hong Kong, in spring. And a little later in summer, we went to Singapur and Borneo, Malaysia, for a bit more than two weeks. This was followed by a short trip to Davos. Finally, in fall, we spent some time in Mauritius, with a stopover in Dubai on the journey home.

The hotel reviews for 2014 and 2015 follow later on this year. I hope I will soon find the time to do them! In the meantime, why not have a look at the ones for 2013?
