Review of Nayara Hotel, Spa & Gardens, La Fortuna, Costa Rica

Luxurious, spacious bungalows with good view of volcano in lush tropical garden with helpful staff:

My husband, our teenage son and I stayed three nights at this hotel which offers a good view to the Arenal Volcano (you can see not only the inactive side but also the active one). There are 50 free-standing bungalows in a lush tropical garden and many of them have an unobstructed view of the volcano.

Our bungalow (Premium Suite) had a double walk-in shower, an outdoor shower, two sinks, a terrace with a (small) Jacuzzi, a beautiful master bedroom, a separate large room for our son and a direct view to the Arenal Volcano. To cap it all, our bungalow was luxurious, well-appointed and unbelievably spacious, we loved it. In addition, it has to be said that the rates are surprisingly affordable with regards to what the rooms offer.

The hotel is situated out-of-town meaning you need a car to go to La Fortuna, in return it is ideally located for a trip to the National Park Volcano Arenal.

We had all our meals on site. There is not only the main restaurant “Altamira” which serves breakfast as well but also the new sushi restaurant “Sushi Amor”. The breakfast buffet offers everything the heart could wish for including an omelette bar and local fare, also fresh juices were served. You even could help yourself to wrapped sandwiches which come very handy when going on a hike, a nice touch. We twice had dinner at the “Altamira” which was good although not outstanding and once we went to “Sushi Amor” and we really liked the food there. A wine bar is also at your disposal where you could taste a variety of wines using a dispensing system, i.e. you could help yourself to a sip, half a glass or a glass of wine, ingenious idea.

As others already pointed out there is a swimming pool, but you can’t swim in it, indeed it’s a floating bar, but my husband and my son liked it and enjoyed their pre-dinner drink in the warm pool. There is also a spa which we didn’t make use of it. As far as service orientation is concerned, almost every employee was eager to please, the manager even came by when we had dinner the first day and handed over his business card, a nice touch. We booked also a trip to Rio Celeste (very recommended if you don’t mind an intermediate hike) through the hotel and although it was quite expensive it was really worthwhile doing.

All in all, the Nayara is an excellent choice when going to Fortuna, offering luxurious accommodations in a nice environment at fair rates with direct views to the volcano.
